Minoxidil Review

Every day, men around the world consider hair loss treatments. Maybe you're experiencing male pattern baldness as you get older, or maybe you just noticed a minor bald spot up top. While male pattern baldness is certainly normal, it doesn't have to be your reality. Aside from professional hair restoration, hair transplants, and hair plugs, there are Minoxidil products available over the counter.

What does Minoxidil actually do? Well, Minoxidil is typically applied to the crown of the head in the AM and PM for maximum results. Hair loss treatments are available in 2% and 5%. When applied as directed, Minoxidil may help slow down the hair loss process, promote new hair growth, and thicken existing hair follicles. Minoxidil is an Antihypertensive Vasodilator medication for hair loss, which means it widens blood vessels in order to improve blood flow to the follicles.

There are numerous hair loss products on the market today, which contain Minoxidil. Probably the most popular of them is Rogaine, which is available in a liquid solution or a foam. Just so you are aware, Minoxidil does not yield results for everyone. In fact, some experts say that this vasodilator works only on about 65% of men. However, Minoxidil can be an effective hair loss treatment for women as well (only in a 2% dose).

Minoxidil was approved by the FDA back in 1988 as a topical treatment for male pattern baldness. However, there are oral Minoxidil tablets available now as well. These are typically only available through prescription.

How long does Minoxidil take to work? Well, it varies from person to person. But, most men see results within three to six months. It may take a year or more to see the full results of this hair loss treatment. Once you begin using a Minoxidil product, you are not supposed to stop. If you do experience new hair growth, the new hair follicles will fall out a few months after you've stopped using this treatment. Therefore it's an ongoing treatment for the rest of your life.

What about side effects? Some common side effects of Minoxidil include rapid heartbeat, scalp irritation/redness, headache, dizziness, and chest pain. However, if these side effects occur, you should stop using this hair loss treatment, and see a doctor to learn more.
