Choosing the right deodorant or antiperspirant can be a challenge. Maybe the broad plethora of deodorant sticks and sprays available these days confuses you when you stroll down the self care aisle of the supermarket. Then again, maybe all of the fuss about antiperspirants be linked to cancer leaves you with reservations. Maybe it is time to consider a natural deodorant for men.
There is a clear difference between deodorants and antiperspirants. Other than the fact that most deodorants are transparent to some degree, there is one major ingredient that separates these body funk blasters. Most antiperspirants contain a key active ingredient called Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex Gly (glycerin). This is one of a few different common antiperspirant components used in products for men and women. Put simply, aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly clogs up your armpit pores to obstruct sweat from being released. This in turn decreases odor.
Now, many men are turning to natural deodorants in order to avoid synthetic components like aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly. This is understandable since some studies suggest that this substance can lead to conditions like Alzheimer’s and cancer. Even though this has not been proven, many men prefer to stay on the safe side. Fortunately there are natural deodorants for men, such as Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Skin Care Deodorant for Men, as well as Tom’s of Maine Deodorant Sticks.
You can find natural deodorants like Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Skin Care for Men and Tom’s of Maine in most drugstores and superstores alike. There are also other forms of natural deodorants for men available. It really just comes down to personal preference regarding effectiveness and scent/fragrance.
Keep in mind that it is antiperspirants that typically contain active sweat-blocking components like aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly. In other words, many deodorants on the market like Axe, Old Spice, and Degree will not contain this aluminum ingredient. Therefore, you may want to consider these armpit deodorizers as well. While true deodorants are only meant to mask body odor and smell fresh/clean, they may be a safer alternative to antiperspirants that clog pores and prevent sweat glands from expelling perspiration. Finally, antiperspirants that contain aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly cause a yellow tint to form on the armpits of shirts, which is not so appealing.
The moment I learned about the aluminum in the deodorant I ran right out and changed over to a natural deodorant. I honestly do not need any health issues in my life.
ReplyDeleteMost people don’t know this but traditional aluminum-based anti-perspirants are really bad for you. The aluminum in anti-perspirants clogs your pores so that you don’t sweat. Lavilin is a natural deodorant that eliminates aluminum from the equation, so even though you may sweat more at least you’ll have comfort knowing it is much better than spreading aluminum over your pores. I’ve been using this product for over 15 years and I would never think of switching.
ReplyDeleteYeah, aluminum is a scary ingredient. The more we learn about it, the more people are avoiding aluminum-based antiperspirants. Some alternatives are basic deodorants like Axe or Brut. You just have to look at the ingredient list on the back, and make sure the product does not contain aluminum zirconium or any other form of aluminum. While deodorants to not block sweat as effectively as antiperspirants with aluminum, they do keep you smelling fresh all day long, which is enough for me.
