3 Reasons Not to Pop Pimples and Acne

Acne is the most common skin disease. In fact, the majority of us grapple with acne blemishes, whiteheads, and blackheads at some point in our lives. People who have more severe breakouts may have to deal with cystic acne as well. This type of acne can leave behind nasty and unsightly scars. So, what is the solution to this ongoing skin affliction? Well, first of all, make sure you do not pop those zits!

There are three important reasons you should not pop pimples and acne blemishes. This means no pinching, popping, squeezing, or poking zits, whiteheads and blackheads. The problem with this is you actually do more harm than good. Remember, your face is an organ, and it is very delicate. The gentler you are, the better it will look.

The first reason you should not pop pimples is due to bacteria. When you squeeze or pop a zit, you break the skin and allow other bacteria to enter. This can actually make the pimple more red and inflamed. In other words, it could look worse tomorrow, and it will take longer to go away. This is the last thing you want.

The second reason you should avoid pinching and squeezing acne blemishes is the trauma it causes. While the zit may become flat and less visible, you are still left with a red mark. This red mark has to heal, since it is essentially damaged tissue. Unfortunately these red marks can literally take months to disappear.

The third reason you should leave that zit alone is scarring. This is especially true if you have a large blemish or whitehead. Many people like to poke the zit with a needle, pinch it to relieve the white head, or pick at it. This is a TERRIBLE idea. What you are doing is causing a scar or pit in your skin. This will never go away. You have probably noticed acne scars on some of your friends, family members, or coworkers. Picking, poking, and pinching acne blemishes is what causes this.

A pimple or zit typically has a lifecycle of about one week. This means if you leave it alone, it will take care of itself. Your skin actually has a natural exfoliation process. If you want to speed up the results, apply an acne treatment like Salicylic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide. There are plenty of facial cleansers, treatment pads, creams, and gels available to help you get rid of acne, but without doing permanent damage to your complexion.
